Frequently Asked Questions

DO I HAVE TO PAY UPFRONT FOR THE COST OF YOU BUILDING MY SITE?

Once the total cost of the site is determined I expect 60% upfront and the other 40% when the site is completed. Of course, if you wish to pay all up front I’ll gladly take it. ; – )

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BUILD MY SITE?

It depends on the size of your site, i.e. the number of pages on your site as well as the type of content on each page. I can usually give you a reasonable estimate on the completion date.

If I need to take payments on my site can you do that?

Yes, absolutely. There are a number of ways to take payments on your site. Paypal is the easiest means of accepting payment. But, Paypal does charge a transaction fee which you can build into your fees.

Also, I can build you a full-fledged shopping cart system if you have products to sell. Check out the shopping cart system I built for The Green Hornet Trap – The Perfect Solution For Trap Shy Animals. I also designed their digital badge, i.e. logo.

Can you teach me how to change content on my website?

Sorry, no. I do not teach people how to be a web developer/designer. BUT, I DO TEACH YOU HOW TO BLOG!

There are many courses available that teach you how to work with WordPress, as well as the associated theme I use called Divi. BUT, be aware that learning is a time-consuming process, and often leads to creating more problems than it solves. Plus, you will not be able to master the skills that I have in programming and design.

Can you supply all the text copy for my website?

Sure, but that costs you much more money. I would have to research and write up all the content for all the pages. After that, I have to search engine optimize(SEO) the content, so your site has a greater probability of ranking well.

I always suggest that the client knows more about their business than I do. That being the case, the client supplying text content is best, then I can modify it for SEO.

Do you supply the photos and graphic elements for my site?

Sorry, no. I generally have my clients get an account at Depositphotos. This is the best-priced stock photo company on the web. I can manage a deal for you that will give you 100 high-resolution photos or graphics images for $100. Of course, you can supply your own photos and graphics.

Can you design graphic elements for my site, e.g. a logo?

Yes, I can. I have been using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator for over 20 years. I can design any graphic element for you for an extra fee which can be negotiated.

ONCE THE SITE IS BUILT HOW MUCH ARE MY YEARLY COSTS?

Your costs consist of the following:

  • Your yearly web hosting cost at Siteground which is $143.40 if you pay upfront. Please note there are less expensive hosting companies but I choose quality.
  • I also suggest you get Site Scanner which Monitors your site daily, Catches even the latest malware, Identifies suspicious activity, Notifies immediately of threats, Gives you time to react. This is an added $1.65 a month, or $19.80 a year.
  • Plus my charge of $50 a month if you want me to do updates for your site. Of course, I can teach you to do that. Updates for WordPress, associated plugins and your theme occur at least once a week if not more.

Please note that your monthly fee does not include me updating text content, graphics or photos on your website for you. If you want me to change text content, add or remove photos and graphics, there are additional fees.

will i get to the top of a search engine once my website is completed?

Yes, and no.

First, the yes part. We list your company on Google and Bing, the two major search engines. Next, it takes time for your site to register. Once your site registers and you enter your company name in either Google or Bing your site will generally get displayed assuming there are no other companies with the same name.

Now the no part. If someone searches for “wildlife control” or “pest control” please don’t expect your site to come up. Your competition is massive. Plus, your site may be new to the internet. There are strategies that I will use to give you ranking in time. But in the meantime, you need to use other mediums for advertising your website. These mediums include Facebook, blogging, business card, newspaper, magazines, radio, and television.

can i get an email with my domain name?

Yes, absolutely. Once you set up a web hosting account at Siteground with your domain name we can set as many emails as you want.

So if your domain name happens to be crittercapture.com I can create emails like contact@crittercapture.com, info@crittercapture.com, tom@crittercapture.com, etc. You can access those emails online or with your own email program. Of course, if we use your own email program there are settings we have to make on it so you can receive and send emails.

can the above company emails be forwarded to my regular non-business email?

Yes, no problem.
