Web Designer and Web Developer – The Difference

Finding a web development and web design company on the internet is not difficult. Also, finding a company that develops inexpensive sites will be easy as well. But what will you be getting for the money? Probably not much and you won’t be getting much personal attention when you need it. My sites are not inexpensive, but they are not overpriced, and you get personal service. Ask any of my clients!

Now, what do you need to know before you have your website developed? Well, there are several issues you must consider. You MUST do your homework before you talk to anyone.

YOU NEED TO CONTROL YOUR WEBSITE, NOT THE COMPANY BUILDING YOUR WEBSITE

First, you want to make sure that YOU CONTROL YOUR WEBSITE! And if you need a domain name, you want to make sure that YOU CONTROL YOUR DOMAIN NAME! Many companies that construct inexpensive sites do not give you complete control. And even companies that are not inexpensive will also keep control of all your sites information. If you want to leave a company, you must make sure that you have access to all your sites data and information. When you hire me this is never a problem – you have complete control of your site.

YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY PAGES YOU WANT ON YOUR WEBSITE

Second, you need to know how many pages your website will need. For example, many sites have a home page, an about us page, a services page, a contact page, and even a blog. It is best that you search sites similar to yours and see how many pages those sites have.

YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT CONTENT YOU WANT ON YOUR PAGES

Third, once you have decided how many pages you want, you must fill those pages with content. The content will consist of relevant text describing the page based on the title of the page. Also, you will want photos, graphic elements like a logo and other colorful designs that enhance the page making it interesting. Furthermore, the photos and graphics must be yours. You can’t steal these elements on the internet. You need to have an account at a company like Deposit Photos where you can get 100 high res images to use for $100. Also, you may want your graphic designer, like I am, developing your logo. You need to ask if the logo is an added fee or part of the site design.

YOU NEED TO KNOW IF YOU WANT TO UPDATE YOUR OWN PAGES

Next, you must decide if you want to update your pages yourself. Now, this can be a tricky issue because you need to know some coding and understand the content management system I use, which is WORDPRESS. I do not teach my clients coding skills or WORDPRESS. I have years of experience, and I can’t teach those skills overnight. I do teach my clients how to blog on WORDPRESS and how to access their blogging page. Blogging is a teachable skill. But, if you are looking for people to discover your blog pages, you must know more than how to make a blog page.

SO WHAT DO I GENERALLY CHARGE?

So, what do I charge? I charge at least $100 a page, plus an added charge for graphic design, photo manipulation in Photoshop, and maximizing SEO. My fee for teaching someone how to Blog is an added $200, which includes videos that I make so you can watch and learn. So, if you want individualized attention and a quality website, you’ve come to the correct place. I produce a quality adaptive, responsive, mobile website designed for the future. And, I am always attentive to my client’s needs. If you hire me, you will not be disappointed!
